Wedding Florist Lingo: “Decent” Bouquets
Everyone wants a bouquet that wows. Long stems. Flawless petals. Fragrant, fresh, and the endless list goes on about what constitutes the perfect flower arrangement from their local florist.
However, there’s an inside joke at Flowers Decor & More where the bouquets are “decent.”
Well, that’s how they start.
And that’s how our entire Colfax floral shop staff ended up with these matching shirts.
The shirts are an ode to our boss, Flowers Decor & More owner Shelly Elkins.
On occasion, our florists need Shelly’s opinion on a floral design, wedding arrangement, or special occasion flower project.
Shelly will pause, analyze the bouquet, and respond with “it’s decent.”
The phrase sounds like she’s implying that the flowers aren’t great. But instead, we all laugh because if you know Shelly, that’s not the translation.
What it actually means is that the flower arrangement has potential, it’s headed in the right direction, keep building.
“It’s decent” has become an insider motto at Flowers Decor & More. It means you’re not done working, but are on the track to greatness.
So to celebrate Shelly at the end of 2022, we all wore custom “it’s decent” t-shirts to work. A little surprise, big laughs, and now Shelly’s motto has become a FD&M staple.
Just remember, decent isn’t bad.
Decent means there’s the still potential for greatness.
